Petite Dumpling in Park Slope: A New Chapter for Mei Chau

With more than three decades of experience, Mei Chau’s culinary journey spans from Tribeca to Chinatown to Park Slope, Brooklyn. In 1993, she and her husband opened their first café, serving a mix of French and Malaysian cuisine. After her previous restaurant, "Aux Epices" in Chinatown closed during the pandemic, Mei opened Petite Dumpling, crafting a new concept that brings together her love for Chinese flavors, Malaysian spices, and a touch of French influence.

“Petite Dumpling isn’t strictly traditional,” Mei shared. “It’s food that I love and a flavor profile I’ve developed over the years.” Located on Brooklyn’s bustling Fifth Avenue, Petite Dumpling has quickly become a favorite spot for those searching for authentic, yet modern, dumplings in Park Slope.

Must-Try Dumplings and Dishes at Petite Dumpling Brooklyn

At the heart of Petite Dumpling’s menu are their handcrafted dumplings. Made fresh every day, these dumplings are filled with Mei’s unique blends of ingredients, like pork and chive and chicken and napa cabbage—customer favorites that keep locals coming back for more. Mei’s Mala Cucumber Salad and Sichuan Bán Mein noodles offer even more depth to the menu, with bold, spicy flavors that balance perfectly with the savory dumplings.

“I make everything to my own taste. It’s not about following strict tradition, but rather blending the flavors I love in a way that brings me joy,” Mei explained.

When asked about her favorite menu items, Mei pointed to the lamb & dill dumplings and house-made sauces that infuse each bite with complex flavors inspired by her Malaysian roots. “I make my own spice mixes, like for our curries and dipping sauces. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it,” she shared.
