What happens when a family’s love for music, art, and authentic Mexican cuisine meets decades of entrepreneurial grit? Casa del Sol is born. After 34 successful years running a restaurant in Los Angeles, Teresa Hernandez and her family brought their unique concept of Mexican dining with live mariachi performances to Tustin. Today, Casa del Sol is more than a restaurant—it’s a stage for Grammy-nominated talent, a gallery of cultural artifacts, and a home for anyone who loves exceptional food and vibrant traditions.

A Legacy of Mariachi Excellence

At the heart of Casa del Sol’s magic is Jóse Hernández, a sixth-generation mariachi who has dedicated his life to preserving and evolving the genre. As a master musician, composer, and educator, Jóse is internationally celebrated for his efforts to elevate mariachi music, introducing it to audiences around the world.

Jóse is the founder of two world-famous mariachi ensembles: Mariachi Sol de México®, a Grammy-nominated group renowned for their rich sound, and Reyna de Los Angeles®, America’s first all-female professional mariachi ensemble. His illustrious career includes collaborations with legends like Selena, Vicente Fernández, and Luis Miguel, along with pop icons such as Bryan Adams and The Beach Boys.

“The humble endeavor of Jóse is to remain the voice and medium for mariachi,” Teresa shares. “His passion is to reflect our treasured cultural heritage through music, and that passion is the soul of Casa del Sol.”

This deep connection to music creates an extraordinary atmosphere at Casa del Sol, where Grammy-nominated performances are as much a part of the dining experience as the food itself.

A Family’s Vision Reimagined

The story of Casa del Sol began in 1986, when Teresa and her family opened their first restaurant in Los Angeles. Combining authentic Mexican food with live mariachi, it became a beloved local institution. After 34 years, the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the family to close the restaurant, but they seized the opportunity to relocate to Orange County, closer to their Newport Beach home.

In September 2021, Casa del Sol opened its doors in the District at Tustin, offering a reimagined version of their original concept. “We wanted to create a place that felt like home for families, where you could celebrate and enjoy incredible food and music together,” Teresa says.

Live Music That Resonates

Casa del Sol’s live mariachi performances set it apart from other restaurants. Guests can enjoy two shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, as well as a mariachi brunch on Sunday mornings and a trio during weekday dinners.

The mariachi band at Casa del Sol delivers an electrifying live performance, featuring Grammy-nominated musicians in traditional attire, bringing the vibrant spirit of Mexican culture to every meal.

When Mariachi Sol de México is on tour or performing at high-profile events, such as the Latin Grammys or international festivals, the stage is graced by Mariachi Reina de Los Angeles, carrying on the family’s legacy of excellence.

“People come for birthdays, anniversaries, and family gatherings,” Teresa says. “It’s a family-friendly atmosphere where you can bring your kids, your grandma, or your friends and enjoy incredible music and food.”

A Museum of Cultural Artifacts

Casa del Sol isn’t just about the food and music—it’s a visual feast as well. The restaurant is adorned with museum-worthy pieces, many of which have been featured at the Getty Museum. These include mariachi costumes worn to the Grammys, artifacts from iconic musicians, and art inspired by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

Even the private dining room, nicknamed the Frida Room, is a work of art, featuring a custom painting brought from Mexico and décor that pays homage to Mexican cultural icons. “Everything in the restaurant has a story,” Teresa explains. “It’s a tribute to the music, art, and heritage we’re so proud of.”

Social Media Buzz and a Bright Future

Since opening in Tustin, Casa del Sol has gained a devoted following, thanks in part to a creative social media strategy. Viral posts on Instagram and TikTok have brought attention to the restaurant’s unique offerings, including its vibrant atmosphere and standout dishes.

Looking ahead, Casa del Sol continues to thrive as a destination for food, music, and community. “Our mission is to share the passion of mariachi and authentic Mexican cuisine with everyone who walks through our doors,” Teresa shares.
