SushiStop: Crafting Affordable, Authentic Sushi in LA
Discover how Yusuke Sekiguchi brings authentic, affordable sushi to LA’s vibrant dining scene with SushiStop’s unique flavors, warm atmosphere, and a dedication to quality.
Nestled in the vibrant dining scenes of Los Angeles, SushiStop has become a beloved destination for high-quality, affordable sushi since its start over 15 years ago. For Yusuke Sekiguchi, SushiStop’s owner since 2018, preserving authenticity while keeping sushi accessible to all has been the driving force behind the restaurant’s success. With six full-service locations across LA and a dedicated team trained in the art of sushi, Yusuke’s approach combines a passion for detail with a commitment to customer experience. We sat down with Yusuke to learn more about SushiStop’s journey and the culinary philosophy behind this LA favorite.
A Japanese Legacy Brought to LA
Yusuke Sekiguchi and his team brought their extensive sushi experience from Japan to LA, where they took over SushiStop with the aim of blending traditional sushi practices with modern dining needs. “Our team comes from Japan, where we operated sushi restaurants and managed one of the largest sushi delivery services,” Yusuke shared. “One of our team members is particularly skilled in everything from sourcing fish to perfecting every sushi detail.” Since stepping in as owner, Yusuke has expanded SushiStop to six brick-and-mortar restaurants and even added a cloud kitchen to cater to growing delivery demands.
With locations in some of LA’s busiest neighborhoods, including Hollywood, Studio City, and Pasadena, Yusuke has chosen spots known for their diverse dining culture. “We wanted to bring SushiStop’s affordable, quality sushi to people all across LA,” he explained. “From our flagship in Sawtelle to our newest Burbank location, we’re dedicated to making great sushi accessible.”
Signature Dishes that Keep Customers Coming Back
SushiStop’s expansive menu features something for every sushi lover. A recent standout addition is the Combination Sushi, which allows guests to select a variety of sushi plates based on their favorite fish. “If you love salmon, for instance, you can order a selection that showcases different ways we prepare it,” Yusuke said. Popular with both regulars and newcomers, this customizable platter is designed to be shared and enjoyed with friends.
Another must-try for sushi enthusiasts is the Bluefin Tuna, or Toro. “Bluefin is rich in flavor and just melts in your mouth,” Yusuke shared, highlighting this delicate cut’s appeal for true sushi lovers. While some might find it intense, Yusuke assured us, “It’s healthy, full of good fish oils, and our guests love it.” SushiStop’s variety of original rolls and creative sashimi platters provide countless options, giving every customer a chance to discover a new favorite.
A Warm Atmosphere and Affordable Prices
Beyond fresh ingredients and innovative menu options, SushiStop is committed to creating an inviting and friendly atmosphere. “People come for sushi, but they want to have a good time,” Yusuke said. “We train our servers to be attentive, recommend dishes, and ensure every customer feels welcome.” SushiStop’s unique approach combines high standards with affordability—a mission that’s not without its challenges, given the rising costs in the industry.
Keeping prices low while delivering quality is essential to SushiStop’s values. With a popular $9.99 lunch special that includes a high-quality sushi bowl packed with fresh fish, SushiStop offers a budget-friendly option for sushi fans who crave value without sacrificing taste. “With rising inflation, it’s hard for restaurants to keep costs down, but we’re committed to staying accessible,” Yusuke emphasized. “We want everyone to enjoy good sushi, no matter their budget.”
A Vision for the Future
With dedicated training programs, Yusuke ensures that SushiStop continuously improves. “Every detail counts, from the freshness of the fish to the atmosphere in our restaurants,” he said. As SushiStop’s presence in LA grows, Yusuke’s dedication to quality and affordability keeps customers coming back. His vision combines authenticity, innovation, and a customer-first mindset that makes SushiStop a true gem in LA’s dining scene.
