Super Taste is a destination for bold flavors, hand-pulled noodles, and dishes that keep customers coming back for more. Tucked in the heart of New York City’s Chinatown, this beloved eatery has built a loyal following for its authentic noodle dishes. We sat down with owner Steve Yan to hear his story—how he built Super Taste, his love for noodles, and what’s next for the restaurant.

From Restaurant Employee to Entrepreneur

Steve Yan arrived in the U.S. in 1992 and quickly found work in the restaurant industry. “I started working in Chinese restaurants and fell in love with it,” he shares. But as he gained experience, he realized he wanted more than just a job—he wanted his own business.

At first, Yan ran a traditional Chinese restaurant, but he soon discovered that competition was fierce. Looking for a way to stand out, he turned to his passion: noodles. “I love noodles,” he says. Determined to perfect his craft, he traveled back to China to study authentic noodle-making techniques that would appeal to the U.S. market. With new skills and a clear vision, he returned and launched Super Taste—focusing on bold, high-quality noodle dishes.

Super Taste’s Must-Try Dishes

When asked about the restaurant’s top menu items, Yan doesn’t hesitate.

  • Dan Dan Noodles – A fan favorite with a bold, spicy kick.

  • Burning Noodles – A personal favorite of Yan’s, known for their unique texture and deep, savory flavors.

  • Sichuan Dumplings – “Our house-style Sichuan dumplings are a must-try.”

Yan designed the menu with variety in mind, ensuring that customers could find something they love. “I wanted to cover everyone’s tastes—noodles with soup, dry noodles, spicy options like mala, and different broth bases,” he explains.

The Rewards and Challenges of Running a Restaurant

For Yan, the most fulfilling part of running Super Taste is simple: customer feedback. “The most rewarding thing is seeing great reviews,” he says. “It means people truly enjoy the food.”

As for his advice to aspiring restaurant owners? “Location is everything,” he emphasizes. While some might avoid opening in areas with heavy competition, he believes it’s actually a good thing. “If there are lots of restaurants, that means there are a lot of people looking for good food. If you believe in your product, you’ll succeed.”

What’s Next for Super Taste?

Yan is always thinking about how to grow Super Taste. While he didn’t reveal too many specifics, he hinted at expanding his online presence and making it easier for customers to find and enjoy his food.

As for who he’d love to see walk through the doors of Super Taste? “I’d invite a successful ramen restaurant owner I know,” he says. “I’d love for him to try our noodles.”
