The Home Eat team began their restaurant journey in 2015 with their first location in Foster City, then called Fashion Wok. Focused on offering delicious, high-quality food to the local community, they expanded to Sunnyvale in 2018. However, after the pandemic hit and their original Foster City location faced structural issues, the team decided it was time to rethink their brand.
"In 2023, we rebranded to Home Eat," Home Eat's explained. "We wanted to better reflect our mission of providing a wider variety of dishes at an affordable price point. Our goal is to serve different communities with fresh, high-quality meals every day."
Over 100 Menu Items: A Dish for Everyone
Home Eat is known for its extensive menu, boasting over 100 dishes, from traditional Chinese favorites to more American-inspired options. "We offer a variety of Chinese dishes, including some more familiar to American customers, like broccoli beef and orange chicken," the team shared. "But what really sets us apart are the authentic flavors we bring to every dish."
One of their most popular items is the beef wrap—a crispy, savory pancake filled with tender beef. "It’s like a scallion pancake, but with beef inside," the team described. "It’s crispy on the outside and packed with flavor inside." Another favorite? The sweet soy chicken wings, which offer a perfect balance of savory and sweet, and are a steal at just $11.75 for 12 jumbo wings.
The team also noted that their fried rice has become a top seller, especially among local customers who appreciate the balance of flavors and quality ingredients.
Adapting to a Changing Market
Like many restaurants, Home Eat had to pivot during the pandemic. The team doubled down on their takeout and delivery services, running promotions to keep business afloat. "During COVID, we focused on offering our food at even more affordable prices and promoting it online," the team said. "It was a challenging time, but it allowed us to really connect with customers who were stuck at home."
Despite the difficulties, the pandemic gave the team valuable experience that helped them grow. "We didn’t take any government assistance, but we learned a lot. We’re all under 40, so we know we have a long way to go and a lot of growth ahead of us."
Looking Ahead: Expanding in the Bay Area
Home Eat’s growth has been impressive. Since rebranding, they’ve opened four new locations—in Cupertino, downtown San Jose, and Santa Clara—and they’re not slowing down. Home Eat's shared their ambitious plans for the next few years: "We aim to have 15 locations in the Bay Area within the next two to three years. Our focus is on being a local favorite, not just a one-off restaurant."
Despite their expansion, Home Eat remains committed to serving high-quality food at reasonable prices. "We want to be a neighborhood spot where people can enjoy great Chinese food without breaking the bank," the team said. While they once received a Michelin recommendation for their Foster City location, the team is no longer chasing awards. "Now, we’re focused on serving our community—offering fresh, high-quality meals every day."
