New York City

While NYC’s Chinatown has long been the go-to for authentic dim sum, AweSum DimSum is making it easier for New Yorkers to experience this beloved cuisine outside of Chinatown. Located in Gramercy and Times Square, AweSum DimSum is the latest venture by Frank and his team, who aim to introduce more people to the joy of dim sum—one small bite at a time. With a passion for traditional flavors and fresh ingredients, Frank envisions AweSum DimSum as a space where dim sum fans and newcomers alike can enjoy classic dishes in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

For those new to dim sum, Frank describes it as a bit like “Southern Chinese tapas”—small, shareable plates that bring people together over a variety of dishes. Dim sum offers a chance to explore flavors and textures, and sample a variety of dishes.

A Menu that Honors Tradition

AweSum DimSum’s menu celebrates the best of dim sum, bringing a taste of traditional dishes to New York. Classic dishes like Har Gow (shrimp dumplings), Siu Mai (pork and shrimp dumplings), and Soup Dumplings are crafted with fresh, quality ingredients, emphasizing the authentic flavors and textures that make dim sum such a special experience. Frank and his team focus on traditional preparation methods, sourcing ingredients that capture the flavors of authentic dim sum parlors.

For diners less familiar with dim sum, Frank and his staff are ready to guide them through the experience, suggesting crowd favorites and offering insights into each dish. “Dim sum can be a little intimidating if you haven’t had it before,” Frank acknowledges. “We want to make it approachable and exciting for everyone who walks in.”

A New Dim Sum Destination for All New Yorkers

Since opening, AweSum DimSum has attracted a mix of seasoned dim sum enthusiasts and first-time diners, drawn by the chance to experience traditional dim sum without the trek to Chinatown. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it a perfect spot for casual lunches, group gatherings, or even solo diners looking to explore. The team has created a menu that feels accessible and exciting, encouraging customers to try multiple dishes and savor the diversity of flavors.

AweSum DimSum also embraces the communal aspect of dining, with a menu designed for sharing. “Dim sum is all about trying different dishes together,” Frank says. “We love seeing people connect over food and share the experience.” With a variety of steamed, fried, and baked options, there’s something for everyone, whether they’re dim sum veterans or just beginning to explore.

As AweSum DimSum continues to grow, Frank hopes to expand the dim sum experience to more neighborhoods, reaching diners who may not have been exposed to dim sum before. “New York is a city that appreciates diversity in food, and we’re excited to be part of that,” he says. With plans for potential expansion and a focus on introducing even more people to the joy of dim sum, AweSum DimSum is redefining what it means to enjoy traditional Chinese food in NYC.
